My name is Misty, and I suffered the grips of addition for over ten years. I started using drugs to alleviate severe symptoms of manic depression. My drug of choice was meth and benzos. My life began spiraling out of control. After years of poor choices, my struggles landed me in jail, where I got the opportunity to participate in Recovery Court. I was referred to a house called New Beginnings Transitional House, where I was connected with a recovery coach from MDC, Katina Woods. That is where my recovery journey started.

While at New Beginnings I worked hard on my recovery, and stared to learn so much about myself and life in general. I met so many people who supported me, and loved me. I have an amazing support system in place now. I have now graduated New Beginnings, living with my son and working on rebuilding the relationships with my family. I credit my housing program New Beginnings and my MDC Recovery Coach Katina, and my network for giving me the opportunity to start a new life.

I am grateful for MDC and the opportunity to have a recovery coach and so much more.
