Senior Prevention Coordinator

Courtney’s co-workers describe her as a dependable, great listener who is passionate about substance use prevention and mental health, but they also want you to know that she hates glitter as much as she loves Christmas–which is a lot. Get to know our Senior Prevention Coordinator a little better!

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I have 20 years of experience in primary prevention, and I am a Certified Prevention Specialist II, a trainer for Mental Health First Aid in Adult, Youth and Teen and an instructor for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

I received my Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education and a Master of Science in Health Education and Health Promotion from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I have spent most of my life here in East Tennessee. I have been married for twenty years and have two boys, two dogs, and two cats (my natural pest control).

What is one project or event you have worked on for MDC that you are particularly proud of?

Passing my Certified Prevention Specialist exam.

One thing I want people to know about my job is…

It is ever changing.

What is your favorite thing about living in Knoxville?

It’s a friendly Southern City.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten?

You can’t touch the same water twice; enjoy each moment, as it will never pass again.

What is something people probably wouldn’t guess about you?

I love to watch sports: football, basketball, and baseball.

What superpower would you choose?

The ability to speak and understand all languages.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fruit

I am proud to work at MDC because…

We make a difference in the lives of our community members. Prevention is not something with instant results, but over time, the changes occur and that makes my heart happy.
