Addiction is a disease of isolation. For those in recovery, connection to community is critically important. This is a vulnerable population of individuals that is not getting the attention we believe is needed. MDC has had to cancel All Recovery meetings at The Gateway as well as Mindfulness Meditation classes to comply with social distancing. While doing this, we also made sure individuals we were serving knew how to access virtual tools and recovery meetings. What do you do when the support system for many is not available due to COVID-19 recommendations to limit group gatherings?
- In the rooms- connect to virtual meetings through Alcoholics and Narcotics anonymous
- Stay connected to sponsors and/or peer support through the use of technology (phone calls, FaceTime, etc…)
- Use prayer and meditation to help relieve stress and fear
- Go outdoors-social distancing does not mean you have to stay inside your home, but please follow the CDC guidelines on gathering
- Maintain daily routines and positive health habits, such as exercise, sleep and healthy eating
- Use positive coping strategies to get through the tough times
