Director of Recovery Support Services 

Metro Drug Coalition is a non-profit organization that serves as the substance misuse prevention, professional training and public awareness arm of Knoxville and Knox County. 

Mission: To improve the health of the greater Knoxville community by reducing the use/misuse of alcohol and other substances through prevention, harm reduction and recovery services 

Vision: A healthy and safe community free of substance misuse 

The Director of Recovery Support Services reports to the Executive Director and provides leadership for both the harm reduction and recovery support services implemented in Knox County and East Tennessee Region. 

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a person in recovery and maintained sobriety for a minimum of five years 
  • High school or GED equivalent (college degree preferred) 
  • Supervisory experience of a minimum of 2 years preferred 
  • Experience preferred in health education, social work or health-related field 
  • Must be willing to do occasional travel for meetings and state trainings throughout the sixteen-county region (Region 2) 
  • Must be a certified Recovery Coach Trainer through CCAR and maintain certification 
  • Must complete the required training to become a certified Peer Specialist with the State of Tennessee (CPRS) or already possess the certification, along with CCAR recovery coach certification. 
  • Maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license and show proof of insurance 
  • Experience in developing and giving presentations to individuals and/or groups 
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

MDC Peer Support Specialist Supervisor duties include: 

  • Manages and supervises the Recovery Team Members 
  • Manages the overall staffing and operations of The Gateway, Recovery Community Center 
  • Welcoming and supportive in nature and appearance 
  • Maintains Volunteer Logs and Visitor Guest Logs 
  • Recruits and engages volunteers in Gateway programming and staffing 
  • Establish and maintain regional partnerships and efforts including community education presentations, community workshops, including outreach to faith-based organizations 
  • Assess regional addiction, recovery support group activities for the region by county  
  • Conduct a capacity assessment for the region 
  • Implement strategic plan based on the capacity assessment and needs in the region 
  • Advocate for policy and practice changes in the region to reduce the stigma of substance misuse 
  • Advocate for recovery program expansion, specifically Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous support groups 
  • Maintain all records 
  • Track efforts to ensure project goals, objectives, activities and evaluations are being successfully completed 
  • Phone referrals for treatment, counseling and/or other needs may be necessary 
  • Attend Region 2 TNPAC quarterly meetings         
  • Assures confidentiality of all client information 
  • Conducts trainings in the CCAR recovery coaching model 
  • Other duties as assigned by the executive director 

Salary is dependent on experience.  A generous benefit package is included.
