Synthetic drugs, such as K2 and “bath salts,” have become more widespread in recent years. Now illegal nationwide, “new” versions of these drugs are still available online. With their brightly-colored, cartoonish packaging, synthetic drugs are appealing to young people. While they may seem innocent, these substances cause serious side effects and can be deadly after only one use.

Education is key to dispelling the myths about synthetic drugs. Teachers can keep students informed about the dangers of synthetics using MDC’s curriculum toolkit. It includes Powerpoint slides, worksheets, games, talking points and more.

MDC offers two versions of the toolkit, one for high schools and one for middle schools. The lesson plans align with Tennessee’s wellness curriculum standards. To request materials, contact Heather Sutton.
