About Youth Metro Drug Coalition

Youth Metro Drug Coalition consists of sophomore, junior and senior high school students across Knox County high schools who have a personal connection to addiction or a passion for substance abuse prevention. These teens serve as a youth-led “community roundtable” on drug and alcohol prevention, providing a safe place to discuss the issues teens in their communities are facing, cultivating a sense of community amongst their peers and developing prevention strategies to implement in order to engage teens and reduce/prevent youth substance use.

With support from MDC, teens will be provided the tools necessary to live above the influence of drugs and alcohol, learn effective strategies to bring education and awareness of substance abuse to their peers and become advocates for change. Students in YMDC will commit to be drug and alcohol free, and are trained on topics, such as: the effects of substance abuse on the body and its impact on the community, public speaking and drug policy. They will also have the opportunity to interact with key stakeholders and leaders in the Knox County Community.
