After 10 short weeks, my internship with Metro Drug Coalition is sadly coming to an end. This past fall semester, I had the pleasure of serving as the Media Relations Intern under Deborah Crouse, the Media Relations and Project Director at MDC. This experience has taught me more than the classroom ever will, and I am forever thankful to have such a wonderful opportunity during my sophomore year.
During my time here, I had the opportunity to manage social media pages, develop blog posts, research issues directly affecting our community and build relationships from within MDC and beyond. Social media and blog posts gave me the creative freedom to pursue my own ideas and truly expand my writing skills. Some of my favorite experiences were working on the Pearls and Bowties social media campaign for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome awareness and visiting the Scripps Radio Station. During the social media campaign, it was amazing to see how something that started so small could reach thousands of people across the state. Also, visiting the radio station allowed me to see one of the most important sides of the PR profession, building relationships.
While I thoroughly enjoyed all of the different opportunities I was given, the wonderful group of people that I got to surround myself with on a daily basis was the biggest blessing. It was inspiring to see a small group of people accomplish so much because of how much they care about this organization. I have learned so many lessons from this wonderful group of people and truly grown as a person. I will always be thankful for my time at MDC.
