About
Tennessee’s Building Strong Brains Initiative is a major statewide effort to establish Tennessee as a national model for how a state can promote culture change in early childhood based on a philosophy that preventing and mitigating adverse childhood experiences and their impact is the most promising approach to helping Tennessee children lead productive, healthy lives and ensure the future prosperity of the state. Metro Drug Coalition is poised to develop a community education program for ACEs training and implementation in high-risk communities in the East Tennessee Region.
Mission: To support innovative local and state projects that offer fresh thinking and precise measurement of impact in addressing ACEs and toxic stress in children to reduce the overall occurrence and impact of ACEs.

About the Advisory Board
The ACEs Advisory Board will provide strategic insight and community-based leadership for MDC’s trauma-informed prevention programs. This includes our Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) education, a maternal-infant health program designed to support mothers and break cycles of intergenerational trauma.
Role Summary
Advisory Board Members are trusted community members who lend their expertise, networks, and lived experience to guide and strengthen TN ACEs trauma-informed prevention efforts. This opportunity requires a modest but meaningful time commitment and a shared dedication to advancing community health, shaping vital maternal and child health and trauma-informed initiatives.
Qualifications (One or more preferred):
● Advocates with lived experience or a passion for breaking cycles of trauma
● Representatives from community service organizations
● Professionals who serve pregnant women or new mothers
● Education professionals (pre-K through higher education)
● Public health professionals and social workers
● Experience in healthcare (including OB/GYN, pediatrics, family medicine, or behavioral health)
● People working in or with lived experience in the foster care system
● Individuals that work with immigrants or refugees or speak multiple languages
Key Responsibilities:
● Attend and actively participate in a one-hour Advisory Board meeting every month
● Provide input on the direction and development of MDC’s ACEs and Brave Beginnings programs
● Share feedback on outreach strategies, training tools, and impact opportunities
● Collaborate with your networks and community partners for programing
Commitment:
One-hour virtual or in-person meetings monthly, with occasional requests for input between meetings.
