We are excited to announce four new CPRS trainings that will be offered at The Gateway! This series is designed to be continuing education for current CPRS or other recovery professionals. This may not be substituted for the state’s Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Training.

Lived ExPEERience with Purpose (Turning Story Into Skill)
April 27, 2026 | 12:30 – 4PM

Learn how to use your story ethically and effectively, in line with the CPRS Code of Ethics. We will help you learn how to use self-disclosure appropriately by identifying what parts of your story to share, how to stay peer-focused, and how to match disclosures to peer need. At the end of this training, you will understand how to use your lived experience as a tool for promoting recovery and connection.

Addiction: Fast & Fake Recovery: Slow and Strong (The Science Behind Relapse + Recovery Skills) June 29, 2026 | 12:30 – 4PM

This presentation will give you insight into the brain science of addiction and relapse. We will help you understand why people lose focus and how to identify the difference between emotional, mental, and behavioral relapse. You will learn why people use unhealthy coping skills and the red flags a CPRS can look for. At the end of this training, you will understand the role of CPRS support in the recovery process.

Building Hope (Understanding Motivation and Behavior Change) August 24, 2026 | 12:30 – 4 PM

Hope is a game changer. This training will focus on identifying evidence-based strategies to create motivation for change as well as strategies that are less effective. The instructor will provide tools for consistently encouraging peers and identifying progress. Participants will learn to ethically inspire hope.

Professionalism, Power, and Peer Ethics (How to Be the Support Clients Deserve) – November 9, 2026 | 12:30 – 4 PM

This training will provide a deep-dive into the Tennessee CPRS Code of Ethics and how to live it out in real situations. Participants will learn how to set healthy boundaries with peers and how to avoid dual relationships. Additionally, the instructor will provide information on appropriate documentation. Participants will learn how to advocate for peers without violating agency policy or CPRS Code of Ethics.
