In community and school events across the country, teens will be given the opportunity to further their knowledge about drugs and the effects they have on the body. National Drug Facts Week is about counteracting the myths that teens learn from the internet, TV, movies, music and their peers.
Past events include CHAT Day where students ask experts questions about drug use, as well as “Shatter the Myths” book clubs and Super Bowl-themed parties with discussions about the facts listed in the booklet.
These community events are extremely important as one-third of high school teenagers report using an illicit drug sometime in the past year. When teens are given the scientific facts about drugs, they can make better decisions for themselves and share this information with their peers.
