The Youth Action Council (YAC) is a partnership between the Metropolitan Drug Commission, the Knox County Mayor’s Office and the City of Knoxville Mayor’s Office.


The Knoxville/Knox County Mayors’ Youth Action Council—A Voice for Youth provides a representative body of teens charged with ensuring that the opinions and concerns of their peers are voiced and that youth have opportunities for community engagement.     

  
   Since its inception in 2004, the Mayors' Youth Action Council has accomplished a great deal toward the goals of (1.) Mobilizing youth to have their voices heard and; (2.) Engaging youth in service to the community. Past accomplishments include:
  • Hosted the Knoxville Youth Summit with over 800 youth participants.
  • Engaged over 1,100 teens in 3,000 hours of volunteer service to the community.
  • Established a position for a student representative on the Knox County Board of Education.
  • Recognized by the Knox County Council PTA for advocacy work related to school funding and student representation.
  • Collected and compiled the opinions and ideas of hundreds of Knox County teens through annual surveys.
  • Supplied a "youth perspective" on several occasions to local leaders and government organizations.
